As South Africans, we often have to look to social media or physically fly to a first-world country to see live performances of the world's best. Luckily, the tables are turned when it comes to live jazz. The Cape Town International Jazz Festival is an annual celebration of the world's finest jazz performers and, instead, sees many international artists and festival goers migrating in to be part of the magic.

The 20th International Jazz Festival is host to legends such as Chaka Khan (USA), Eliane Elias (Brazil), Moonchild (USA), The Lady Day Big Band (SA), Shekhinah (SA), and many, many more. The entire mindblowing lineup can be seen here

Typically, the festival organisers present a free concert in Greenmarket Square prior to the main festival. Keep your eyes peeled for the official announcement of details, in case you're not able to make the grand event itself.

Be prepared for over 40 awe-inspiring artists, performing on 5 stages, to a total of well of 37,000 eager listeners. Often referred to as "Africa's Grandest Gathering", it's the largest music event in sub-Saharan Africa. The CTIJF is where it's at.
